Note from the Teacher:
Together we can make a difference.
PLEASE…do your part at home by reading/listening and/or talking about books for at least 15 minutes each night.  THIS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!

Snacks/Sharing Calendar: Each month a calendar will be sent home and on the day your child brings a snack they may also bring something from home to share. Please limit to 3 items.   The Alden School Board has adopted a wellness policy and as a class we will do our part to encourage only healthy snacks.  Please limit the amount of sugar in the snacks that you send.  NO candy or gummi /fruit snacks, please (unless it is a special birthday or holiday treat). Please remember that it is very disappointing to your child if they have no snack to pass out when it is finally their turn. You can help by sending a non-perishable healthy snack to be used on days the snack is forgotten. Thanks so much.

Changes in Afternoon Plans: If you need to change your child’s regular afternoon plans you may call or e-mail me in the morning.  If it is after lunch please call the office and they will notify me.  If I am not notified I will continue with your child’s regular after school routine.

Room Parents and/or Classroom Volunteers:  Please contact me if you can be a room parent or classroom volunteer.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions and/or concerns.

This week's spelling words:  another, put, large, such, even, end, does, well, big, must
Final test is on Friday!!
Please help your child practice their spelling words.  Have them look through the newspaper or a magazine to find their spelling words.  It is important that they be able to read, as well as, write them.

Math

Keep practicing addition facts to sums of 10 and subtraction facts, as well. The goal is 36 problems correct in under 5 minutes.     We are learning how to read and write time to the hour and 1/2 hour.  We have been practicing many ways: with digital and analog clocks, reading the time, writing the time, and drawing in the hands on an analog clock.  Please practice this at home (especially time to the 1/2 hour--this is proving to be difficult for many children).

Social Studies/Science

The 1st graders are traveling to Mrs. Duit's room to learn about animals and animal habitats.  Scholastic activities for March:  Dr. Suess' birthday, The pond in spring, The weather and me, The luck of the Irish.

Announcements:

Our family fun night carnival basket was the top $ maker at the carnival!!!  Thanks to all who donated and thanks to Beth Lettow for donating the basket and wrapping it all up for us.

Please make sure that your child has mittens or gloves (waterproof, 2 pairs are nice), snowpants and boots each day.  We will be going outside each day (indoor recess only if conditions are dangerous).  Thanks!!

Please note that you are now able to do my book orders on line.  There is a link on my web page (at the top of the home page).  All the password information is also on that link.

Please make sure that your child is dressed accordingly on Tuesdays and Thursdays for PE.  If your child does not have PE shoes at school please make sure they are wearing tennis shoes on those days.

With the flu season upon us--our classroom is in need of antibacterial wipes so that we can clean our desks each day.  Please donate a container or 2 if you can.  Thanks!!

HOMEWORK, HOMEWORK......

***** homework packets are  sent in the Wednesday folder and are due the following Wednesday.  Please have your child do as much of the writing/reading as possible.  Thanks!!!

*** Read with your child each night.  Reading with your child provides so many positives...it promotes good reading habits, gives you one-on-one time, and the best way to learn how to read is to spend time reading! Try to read with your child for at least 15 minutes every night.  Have them show you 3 ways to read a story.  (Read the pictures, read the words, or retell a previously read story.)

Practice Spelling Words--Practice reading and writing the words.  They are so proud when they do well during the daily practice and on the Friday post test.
